Louisiana Contest Club 4th quarter meeting, 10:00 AM, October 6, 2013Pineville, LA

Previous room occupants didn’t yield room until about 10:10. President Mark Ketchell, K5ER, called meeting to order at 10:15.Those attending meeting were members: K5ER, WM5H, W5AG, N5NVP, KG5VK, KA5M, KN5O, K1DW, N5AVN, KB5YEG, and guests W3GW and WA5JWU.

In his absence, a financial statement prepared by Sec/Treas, W5WZ was read into the record by the President. Motion to accept by K1DW and second by KN5O. There being no opposition, motion passed

Major business for this meeting was elections. The process of online nominations and voting was explained. There was only one nominee for the positions of President (KI5XP), Vice President (KG5VK) and Secretary/Treasurer (W5WZ). Each received votes online and were declared elected by acclamation. There were 3 nominees for the two director positions. A committee consisting of 4 members received and concurred on the online voting and brought the results to the meeting, where a live vote was held. Incoming Vice President Steve, KG5VK tallied the votes and when combined with online votes, we had a very close race. With a difference of only four votes separating the three candidates, KN5O ad KA5M were declared winners of the two director’s seats. Our incoming board officially takes office on January 1, 2013.

All potential incoming officers had been polled and agreed that at least two meeting locations for next year needed to be set before the close of this year. The two largest pockets of active LCC members being in the Lafayette and Monroe areas, it was unanimously voted that the LCC would meet at the Rayne hamfest in March, and the Monroe hamfest in April. If was further decided that the incoming board could review the schedule and set the third and fourth quarter meeting dates and locations.

A list of upcoming contests was presented and members were encouraged to find their niche and participate, or find something new and challenging and participate. We were remionded that W5RU, operating from the home of KN5O, took 2nd place in ARRL SS Phone last year. Ted invited LCC members to participate from his home once again this year. Members not already on were encouraged to sign up for the club email reflector, and participate in formation of teams and the exchange of information.

All attendees received a handout, “A Contest Primer” by Ward Silver, N0AX (QST, Oct 2003) used with permission. The story included a brief how to on getting involved in contesting, a list of contest calendars, and also a list of links to some of the most popular logging software. A side-bar included a step by step on how to participate in November SS, and how to have fun doing so.

Our next meeting will be March 9 at the Rayne hamfest. Our time allotment being exhausted, the meeting was adjourned at 11:01.
