Meeting Minutes
March 10, 2018
The first meeting of the LCC for 2018 took place at the Rayne hamfest on March 10, 2018. The meeting was called to order by President Scott Dickson, W5WZ at 10:30 AM.
Members present were: Delta Division Director K5UZ, AI5AA, W5ZR, NA5Q, W5TMP, W5AG, K5FNQ, New member AE5V, and officers W5WZ, WM5H and K5ER.
The following guests were in also attendance: AE5HB, K5XU, N5NVP, and Delta Division Vice-Director WB4RHQ
Since they had been posted on the web-site, reading of last meeting's minutes was dispensed with. A complete financial report was given.
LaQP was discussed. The web site has been updated with 2017 winners list and all certificates were mailed. We received a nice letter from multi-year participant Rich, K9GDF, thanking us for the nice certificates.
After last year's event there was much discussion, including suggestions of changing the date. Since the LCC took over sponsorship of the LaQP, we had already changed the date three times. Several commented that at some point, we just had to pick a date and stick to it, and those who thought it was important would make plans to participate. Because the record showed that we had approximately 35% increase in number of QSOs, we chose NOT to change the date. The 2018 date is March 17. Complete rules are posted on the web site - LaQP.org
A proposed budget for 2018 was presented, including funding for renewal for our three domains and internet hosting, LaQP supplies, regular club correspondence supplier (envelopes, stamps, etc., sponsorship of three plaques for major contests and some new club QSL cards. Motion to accept the budget of about $800 was made by K5UZ, seconded by NA5Q. There were no dissenting votes, so motion carried.
President W5WZ opened the floor to discussion and presented several topics. Lively discussion followed including tips on eliminating noise in the shack, preferred contest software including some of the accessories to make them more useful, distributed logging and more.
This was a well attended meeting and everyone in attendance participated in the discussions.
Our time being up and there being no further business, the meeting was adjourned. Our next meeting will be at the Monroe hamfest, April 21, 2018.
