Louisiana Contest Club meeting – September 2016

This was the final LCC meeting of 2016, and was held at Alexandria Hamfest. The meeting was called to order by our President, KA5M.

Members present included, KA5M, and K5ER. Guests visiting were: KV8S, KE5MFC and AC5DM

Financial reports were read and entered into the club records. Deposits included $60 in dues collected at the Shreveport meeting and $20 into the Paypal account. Expenditures included $58.45, which was the postage for mailing the LaQP certificates.

Elections of officers for 2017 – Nominations for officers were opened at the Shreveport meeting, and the current officers were all nominated for another term. Because of the flooding in Baton Rouge, Mike, AI5AA, asked to be removed from the nomination list. Steve, KG5VK was subsequently nominated. The nomination window stayed open for just over two weeks. There were no further online nominations and when voting started, each of those nominated received votes. At the live voting in Alexandria, KA5M and K5ER were the only paid members in attendance, and both had voted online. Having no other votes to consider, the nominees were declared to be duly elected. Our officers for 2017 are: President – Marsh, KA5M; Vice President - Bobby, WM5H; Sec/Treas – Mark, K5ER; Directors – Ted, KN5O and Steve, KG5VK.

Plaque sponsorship for major contests – Because of other commitments, the Sec/Treas has not completed negotiations with those who run the plaque programs for the various contests. He has been tasked to follow up and bring information to the board, who will make the decision on which contests/plaques we will sponsor, but it will still be one plaque per mode. Once everything is in place, the membership will be notified via the club’s reflector and a report will be given at our next meeting.

Although this was the last meeting for 2016, we are already working on securing meeting locations for 2017. We have already talked to the forum representatives for Rayne and Shreveport, and will secure a spot in Monroe at their next local club meeting.

Because the previous forum room occupant went long, and we had elections and business to cover, rather than a presentation, we had an open discussion extolling the uses of our email reflector and also talked about the usefulness of HFTA in planning a station. With contest season coming up, we highly encourage members to join and participate in the email reflector. Contest reminders and (when allowed) team formation takes place on the reflector. Technical discussion and questions/suggestions on antenna, equipment and operating also take place. If not already plugged in, you should give it a try. There is a link on the left side on the club web site, N5LCC.com .

There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned.
